Nova Scotia has several public holidays, when most or all businesses close. They are:

  • New Year’s Day (January 1) – Usually celebrated with friends and family.
  • Good Friday
  • Easter Monday
  • Victoria Day (1st Monday after May 20) – The traditional day that marks the beginning of ‘cottage season’, when it’s warm enough to enjoy the first of many summer weekends at the beach.
  • Canada Day (July 1) – Our national day, marked by celebrations and fireworks in most towns and villages.
  • Natal Day (1st Monday in August) – Large fireworks in Halifax.
  • Labour Day (1st Monday in September) – The last long-weekend of summer.
  • Thanksgiving Day (2nd Monday in October) – Transport will be packed as people travel to be with family for traditional dinners together.
  • Remembrance Day (November 11) – Marking the end of World War II.
  • Christmas Day (December 25)
  • Boxing Day (December 26)
